Had the good fortune of tasting this highly touted Pinot Noir today. It was indeed satisfying. The wine pours a very delicate light garnet/plum color. One of those very deceiving Pinot Noirs (redolent of many a fine red Burgundy) in which the color ultimately fools the taster. Many are fooled into believing that a wines color is a certain indicator of its texture, body, and flavor. Not always the case! While light in color this wine in the glass , when swirled, just drips with luscious legs (glycerol-see the” Marangoni Effect” and “Tears of Wine.”) And, it is hard to bring the wine to the nose as the visual attraction is so great. But, the alluring feminine scent of this Pinot soon wins over the eye and demands attention, like the sirens of ancient Greece, and longs to be brought to the nose. Sublime, elegant, and crafted with balance as its focus, the powerful yet at the same time oddly delicate aromatics here exhibit slightly smokey textbook cherry Pinot notes, some cola way back, faint earth, and hints of perhaps peppered, smoked bacon. The lift from the welcome acids accentuate the near perfect Burgundian fruit sweetness in which this bottling is blessed in both aroma and flavor. The wine envelops the palate with sexy, playing hard to get, Pinot goodness. The texture here is never thick or overbearing. Instead it begs to be tasted again and played over and over. The only real (though slight) fault I can find in this creation is the use of wood. On the finish I feel somewhat oddly as if I might have have been licking the surface of a dry sauna? She is still pretty though and is worth finding, and enjoying. Though at nearly $60.00 this girl is a high priced lady of the night. But, a welcome change from those overpowering, palate saturating ladies flooding the market, and in this regard she might be a bargain!
